The IRS extended the time to properly file 2023 income tax returns and make any 2024 estimated tax payments due between September 10, 2024, and February 3, 2025, until February 3, 2025. This means your properly extended 2023 Federal Income Tax Return and your 2024 third- and fourth-quarter federal estimates can be deferred and paid by February 3, 2025, without interest or penalty.

Louisiana has not announced a decision yet; however, they typically follow the IRS on these matters.

The announcement also affects other tax payments that may apply to you.

Please note: The Hurricane Francine IRS extension does not grant relief for any tax balances that were due and payable before September 10, 2024, including any balances due on your 2023 income tax returns.
